Every postpartum journey is different, but many moms experience a combination of physical changes and discomforts as their body heals.
General Soreness and Discomfort
Your body just did something incredible. It is normal to feel sore in places you didn’t expect.
After a vaginal birth, tenderness in the perineum is common. After a C-section, your body is healing from major surgery. You may also feel muscle soreness in your hips, glutes, back, arms, and even your jaw from labor.
Gentle movement, rest, and time go a long way here.
Bleeding and Healing (Lochia)
Postpartum bleeding is part of the healing process. Your body is shedding the uterine lining, and this can last for several weeks.
If bleeding suddenly increases or becomes bright red again, it is often a sign your body needs more rest. This is your reminder to slow down, not push harder.
Breast Changes and Feeding
As your milk comes in, your breasts may feel full, tender, or even painful. This is called engorgement, and it is very common in the early days.
Supportive bras, gentle movement, and easing back into activity can help you feel more comfortable as your body adjusts.
Fatigue Like You’ve Never Felt Before
This level of tired hits differently.
Between healing, hormone shifts, and caring for a newborn, your body is running on very little rest. Instead of trying to “get your energy back,” this season is about protecting your energy.
Think: naps when you can, short walks, fresh air, and small moments of movement that feel supportive, not draining.
Hair Changes, Hemorrhoids, and Everything In Between
Postpartum can bring unexpected changes like hair shedding, hemorrhoids, or general discomfort when sitting or moving.
None of this is glamorous, but all of it is normal. And most importantly, it is temporary.
Core Changes and Diastasis Recti
Your core has changed. That is not a failure, it is a natural part of pregnancy.
Many women experience some level of abdominal separation postpartum. The goal is not to “fix” it quickly, but to reconnect, rebuild, and strengthen safely over time.
